August 2020 - Land Owners

In our search for a retirement home, we've spent several years looking at different parts of the country.  We started looking at Oregon, but soon realized we wanted to be more centrally located in the U.S. for RV trips.  We started taking RV trips to scout areas (see previous blogs) and visited the hill country in Texas (Fredericksburg, Austin) and Northwest Arkansas (NWA).  We decided that NWA, in the Ozark area was the most beautiful, green area with acreage available at a very reasonable price.

In April we toured the area to narrow the search and continued looking for the right property to be listed for sale.  In late June, such a property was listed and I flew out to check it out and see if it was the property we desired.  The property is nearly 40 acres with 6+ acres cleared on a hill-top.  There is a mobile home which would eventually be replaced by a home, but has electric, propane, well water, access to rural water, and access to natural gas.  It has frontage on a county-maintained road and the home site is set back about 1/8 mile from the road with lots of mature trees and 30 acres of forest surrounding the cleared area.

After a long visit and tour in early July, we couldn't find anything that would deter us from establishing property ownership and planning our retirement home.  We made an offer and closed escrow in mid-August!

Now we will embark on the development of our new property over the next five years, anticipating retirement around 2025-2026.  We are very excited about our new project and eager to migrate to the center of the Country for some rural living during retirement.
